CS 338: Computer Applications in Business: Databases
Winter 2014
Online Resources
Students will work with a state-of-the-art commercial DMBS. A number of systems can be used. The School supports IBM DB2, but you can also use Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL. Learning how to use these systems is your responsibility. You will find the following resources useful:
Getting your own DBMS
- If you have your own PC, you can download a copy of DB2 for educational use. It is available for Linux and Windows. This is a large download, however, so probably impractical over a dialup connection.
- You can also download MySQL. An installer is available for Windows, and several other systems are supported as well (these may require a bit more work).
Clickers
We will be making use of clickers in lectures to engage students and provide instant feedback.
- Clickers can be purchased at the UW bookstore in South Campus Hall for around $42 (and buy-back for ca $20).
- You may buy a new or used Clicker, but cannot share one with someone else in the class.
- To get marks for using your clicker, you must register your clicker here.
